Summary:
"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time."

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.
If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.
Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate.

Review:
I’m a fan of the Covenant Series and I really don’t know why it took me so long to get around to reading this book. Deity is the best book in the series so far and I really enjoyed it.
This series might have started a little too similar to another series I love but I think it has really changed and came into its own by now. The characters and story are great.
Deity picks up shortly after Pure ended. Alex has to find a way to survive to see her eighteenth birthday even as revelations turn her world upside down once more.
Alex becomes a better character and grows up a little bit in every book. She’s still too impulsive and now always thinks things through but I like the fact she’s determined, strong and not afraid to speak up for herself.
Of course this means she can be a little inconvenient at times but that’s definitely part of her charm. There’s a lot going on in Alex’s life and she’s forced to try and make the right decisions, even if she doesn’t know what those are.
Alex’s a kickass character and Aiden really brings out the best in her.
Aiden is by far my favorite character in the series. He keeps getting better and better. He’s determined, strong, intelligent, poised and protective. He’ll do anything to keep the ones he loves – including Alex – safe
He opens up a little bit in this book and the readers get to know him a little bit better.
I can’t wait to see the lengths he will go to keep Alex safe next.
There are other great characters in Deity. Leon, for instance. If I already liked him before I do even more now! I can’t say much about this because of spoilers but Leon really turns out to be awesome!
There’s also Solos, a new character I think I might come to like.
When it comes to Seth, he has never been my favorite character but I never exactly despised him and thought he was bad, either. I think he makes some really bad choices in this book, motivated by the need for power and acceptance.
The relationship between Alex and Aiden develops in Deity and I loved the sweet and passionate movements between them. Despite their differences they work well together and balance each other.
Plot wise, there are a few twists and turns in the story. Some people want Alex destroyed before she awakens and our heroes have to find out exactly who these people and what their plans are. The book ends in a little cliffhanger of sorts so I couldn’t wait to start reading Apollyon.
All in all, Deity is a great and gun read. It’s a wonderful, well-written and full of surprised addition to the series. The characters keep getting better and better and so does the Apollyon storyline.
I can’t wait to find out what will happen to Alex and Aiden and everyone else!

Book Excerpt

After hemming and hawing about the trip for days, Heather finally woke up on Saturday excited to go on the mysterious honeymoon with Peter. No matter what Victoria said, it was a well-deserved trip. The last time she went on an adult vacation for a week was to Paris the year before Hayes was born. The prospect was exciting, even though she was filled with guilt and would miss the kids. She knew that Donna and Phil had wanted to take the big kids for a week to the beach ever since Hank had passed away. They were excited about being able to take them now. Jenny and Janie were going to alternate mornings at the house to give Heather's mom a little break. All of the plans were finalized. All five kids were taken care of. She was almost done packing the big guys and still had grocery shopping to do for the necessary supplies for her mom and the twins. Heather also had to get herself ready. Peter had insisted on packing her clothes, but she was determined to throw a few things in just in case she didn’t like his choices.
Heather got up and ran her errands, which included going to have a Brazilian wax done. The whole idea scared the crap out of her, but she had secretly always wanted to see what it would be like to get one. She figured now was the perfect time before she was about to leave for a week's vacation with the hottest guy in town. The spa's website mentioned taking Advil before the procedure to reduce swelling and pain. She took four just in case. She was getting the Bombshell Wax and was escorted to a little private room. The room was funky with pink accents and stars on the ceiling. Music was piped through speakers. Heather tried to relax and removed her clothes and put on the little robe. She got up on the table and felt like her stomach was going to explode because she was so nervous. Brenda, the aesthetician, walked in just as she was contemplating getting up to go, having decided this wasn't a great idea.
"Hi, sweetie! First time?"
"Yes, and I'm having second thoughts."
"No need. Just lie down and it will be over before you know it."
Heather wasn't sure why she ever thought this was a good idea. She only really wanted Peter down there or a doctor who had to perform some kind of exam. Brenda readied the materials and started the process. Heather was holding onto the sides of the table with a death grip. The aesthetician smiled and went to work.
"How many kids do you have?"
"I have five."
"FIVE?"
"Three kids and a set of twins."
"Wow, you look great for five kids," she said, and Heather couldn't help but wonder if she was thinking that her lady parts looked great or the rest of her. Was stuff supposed to be hanging out? Should she feel lucky that she only sometimes peed when she sneezed?
"Thanks," said Heather grimacing as the wax was being put on.
"Now this will hurt a little but I promise it will be worth it."
Worth it for who? Peter better like it, she thought. He had no idea Heather was there, and she wanted to keep it a secret until they arrived at their secret destination. She knew that was going to be hard to do because Peter was very touchy feely and saw her naked all the time. He thought she was running errands right now while he was watching the kids.
She yelled as the first piece of wax was peeled off. Removing hair was more painful than giving birth, which didn’t really make sense because a piece of hair was miniscule and a baby’s head was gigantic. After an excruciating fifteen minutes, Heather felt like she had been riding a horse without a saddle. She paid, thanked Brenda and went on her way.

Book Boyfriend of The Week: Gavin "Mack"MacKenzie from Shine Not Burn by Elle Casey

So, I decided to start participating in this meme again because we all love a book boyfriend, don't we?

This is a meme hosted by Reading and Things for bloggers to talk about their boyfriends and tease the readers with things they've said. Because every girl loves talking about her book boyfriend!

Want to participate?

All you have to do is:

1) Pick a book boyfriend, it can be from the book your currently reading or from one you've already read.

2) Write what kind of boyfriend he is, and if you want, say why you think that

3) Pick a quote from his book, it could be long or short, that proves he is the kind of boyfriend you said he is

4) Make sure the quote, and the explanation, DO NOT give away anything from the book (we want all of the twists and plot surprises to remain surprises)

5) Share it! And shout it out using the hashtag #ReadingandThings
6) Grab the button and banner for your blog

My Book Boyfriend this week is:

Gavin "Mack"MacKenzie from Shine Not Burn by Elle Casey

IT HAPPENED IN VEGAS.

I can't be held responsible. Things that happen there are supposed to stay there, right? Right? Yeeeah. Not so much.

Andie's just days away from tying the knot, but there's just ooooone little glitch. Apparently, she's already married. Or someone with her name is married to a guy out in Oregon of all places, and the courthouse won't issue her a marriage license until it's all cleared up. Tripping her way through cow pies and country songs to meet up with a man who gets around places on horseback is her very last idea of how to have a good time, but if she's going to get married, make partner at the firm, and have two point five kids before she's thirty-five, she needs to get to the bottom of this snafu and fix it quick ... before her fiance finds out and everything she's been working toward goes up in flames.
