Title: The Space Between
Author : Victoria H. Smith
Release date: April 2, 2013
Age Group:  New Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Tour organized by: AToMR Tours

When Drake started the night at his father’s campaign fundraiser, he never imagined he’d end it being conned into buying drugs on the West Side. Losing high-stakes poker has its consequences, but he’d repeatedly face them just to hear Lacey Douglas sing. Drake sees Lacey light up the stage, and he has to have her. But his intentions for being on her side of town turn out to be the reason he can’t.
Chicago native Lacey has dreams of the opera, but life has its obstacles. Lacey has come to know her hardships as part of living in the real world and accepts them fully. When Lacey meets the intense and invigorating Drake, a fire is lit inside her, unleashing those dreams again.
Two paths that should have never crossed prove to create the exact pairing the other needs. But when their worlds take time to catch up, everything they have is tested. Finding the space between the two sides that challenge them will be hard, but it’s the only place that will keep them together.
The Space Between is a new adult contemporary romance.

Creating Chemistry by Victoria H. Smith

I’ve found when creating chemistry it’s best to let it flow naturally. In the first draft of one of my first manuscripts, I tried to force it and quickly found out the chemistry came off very unnatural. The characters will do and feel what they want without the author trying to make it happen.

As far as making sure the chemistry is there to start, I found that discovering what two people desire is what creates an attraction between them. You could have two people who are completely opposite from one another, but if you give them each what the other person has you create the perfect partnership. They need that person, that other piece of the puzzle to put their life in perspective. From there, you can’t keep them off each other. ;)
In regards to Drake and Lacey’s story, Lacey is a very driven person. She knows who she is and what she wants. Her problem? She is stuck in a box and can’t obtain the things she needs. Her mother is sick so she feels she can’t achieve her dreams. Drake is the opposite. He may have resources (money, the anticipation of a paid-for college education), but he has no desire for any of it. His life has been created for him by his parents. He feels lost. Drake needs to see someone like Lacey to make him take a look at his own life and fight for what he wants. Lacey needs someone like Drake who has free-spirited thinking. Someone to show her that anything in life is possible. They just naturally flow together and vibe off each other, so creating chemistry between them was quite simple, and very fun. :)
